An 1880 biography stated that Henry was born in 1843 in Dayton, Ohio. His death certificate bears the date May 30, 1844, and also mentions Dayton. However, a detailed study of the Yetter family, plus Henry's military enlistment record, suggest that Dayton was simply a geographical point of reference and that he was born in Miami County.

He served as a private in Company A of the 118th Illinois Infantry from November of 1862 until June of 1865.

An extract of his death certificate indicates that he was interred at Graceland Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois. But the cemetery informed an inquirer that Henry was cremated there, then his remains were returned [to a family member?] and not buried at Graceland Cemetery.~Chicago Tribune, page 21
