Ruth L. Wilcox of Englewood was born on a farm near Bloomington, NE December 6, 1899 to Asa and Della Blackledge. She died March 27, 1993 at the age of 93. Ruth had been a longtime resident of Holyoke.
The youngest of three daughters, Ruth attended school in Alma, NE after the family moved there. She came to Holyoke in 1918 to visit her sister and obtained a job teaching at Evergreen School east of Holyoke.
When school was out, she obtained a bookkeeping job at Phillips County State Bank where she worked until she married George "Bus" Wilcox Jr. on May 6, 1921. They had two daughters Lois and Carolyn.
Ruth loved to sew and make quilts. She always found time to help people with their sewing projects. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Holyoke extension club and the Methodist Church.
The past four and one-half years she has lived with her daughter and son-in-law Carolyn and Von Brown in Englewood.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband George, daughter Lois Lohman and one granddaughter.
Survivors include her daughter Carolyn and husband LaVonne "Von" Brown of Englewood, son-in-law Howard Lohman of San Leandro, CA; two nieces including Viola Colglazier of Holyoke; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and one nephew.
Services were held March 31, 1993 at First United Methodist Church in Holyoke with Rev. Jack Pedotto officiating. Interment was in Holyoke Memorial Park.
