US Congressman. Sickles, served in the United States Army during World War II. Elected to represent the State of Maryland as an At-Large Delegate in the United States House of Representatives, he served from 1963 to 1967. He also served as a Member of the Maryland State House of Delegates from 1955 to 1962, Delegate to Maryland State Constitutional Convention in 1967. Known as 'The Father of Washington's Subway System' he was instrumental in bringing railway service to the District of Columbia in 1963. He chaired the Washington Interstate Compact Commission, served on the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Board for Prince George's County, Maryland, from 1967 to 1978, and was an Alternate Member representing Montgomery County, Maryland, in 1981. (bio by: K)
