Henry Tipton Bartley was born in Lee County, Virginia, a son of John Clinton and Jane Randolph (Fletcher) Bartley. He married Olivia Clementine "Ollie" Ball 16 Sep 1886 in Hancock County, Tennessee. Tip and Ollie had at least 12 children, including one stillborn girl. The others were: Royal Bartley, Ida S. Bartley Claiborne, Birdie Ethel Bartley Claiborne, Lawrence Zachariah Bartley, White Charles Bartley, Roy Everett Bartley, Archie John Bartley, Chesta S Bartley Bowman, Hobart George Bartley, Ola Mae Bartley Wood, and Dola Stella Bartley Queener. Tip died in Jacksboro, Campbell County, Tennessee.

H. T. Bartley died Tuesday morning at 5:10 at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Hodge Claiborne of Jacksboro, after a lingering illness. He was 89. Survivors include the wife, Ollie C. Bartley; daughters, Mrs. Hodge Claiborne, Mrs. M. O. Wood, Mrs. W. D. Queener, all of Jacksboro, and Mrs. Don Claiborne of LaFollette; sons, Roy and Hobart of Jacksboro and Archie of Barberton, Ohio; brother, Charles of Tazewell; 33 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Hodge Claiborne. Interment in Jacksboro Cemetery. Cross and Sharp of LaFollette in charge.
