DANTE, Va. Carl E. "Pete" Castle Sr., 80, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, at Heritage Hall College Road in Wise, Va. He was born in Scott County, Va., son of the late Clint "Bill" and Kate Kilgore Castle of Dante. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. He worked for the United Postal Service for more than 41 years. He managed the old Dante Baseball League. He started the first Dante Volunteer Fire Department and was Dante's first Fire Chief. He was an avid animal lover. He attended Straight Hollow Freewill Baptist Church. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years and mother of his children, Betty Tompa Castle; two daughters, Teresa Booker and husband, Eddie, of Castlewood, Va. and Gwen "Sam" Jordan and husband, Sammy, of St. Paul, Va.; two sons, Tim Castle and wife, Darlene, of Dante and Carl "Doo" Castle Jr. and wife, Norma, of Castlewood; two sisters; Ms. Betty Castle of Dante and Phyllis Wallace and husband, Johnny, of Carolina Beach, N.C.; one brother; Billy Castle and wife, Kathleen, of Castlewood; three grandchildren, Chandra Booker, Dara Francis and husband, Heath, and Matt Jordan all of Castlewood; special granddaughter, Daya Hall; two very special great-grandchildren, Kailee Hall and Sophie Hall; best friend and long time Marine buddy, Lee Keene of Grundy, Virginia; special friend, Pam Hall; brothers-in-law, Frank Tompa Jr. and Thomas Phillips; sister-in-law, Jane Phillips; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; the many friends that knew Pete during his precious Eighty years that loved him. Funeral Services for Carl E. "Pete" Castle Sr. will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, with the Rev. Olen Cassell, the Rev. Ted Phillips, and the Rev. Ken Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood. Pallbearers will be Matt Jordan, Heath Francis, Shaun Hall, Terry Stone, Jon C. Phillips, and Mark Gullett. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Dante Volunteer Fire Department, Frank Tompa Jr., Thomas Phillips, and Lee Keene. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood.
