Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Private in the Union Army in Company B, 169th New York Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on January 15, 1865 at Fort Fisher, North Carolina. His citation reads "Volunteered to carry the brigade flag after the bearer was wounded." (bio by: Don Morfe)
