He was born February 18, 1916 in Louisville, NE to Henry and Frederica (Bruhn) Bluma. He lived in Louisville, then Malcolm, NE and graduated from Concordia High School and then Concordia College, both in Seward, NE. After college he lived in Wisner, NE for 2 years where he taught school and then moved to Omaha for 5 years. He moved to Arlington in 1942 where he taught and was principal at the St. Paul's Lutheran School, retiring in 1981.
George married Viola M. Culp on August 24, 1941 in Lincoln. She died June 22, 2008.
George was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Arlington, where he was also the choir director, organist and youth director. He was a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League. He was active in the State Walther League and served 2 years as state president. After retiring from St. Paul's Lutheran School, he assisted part-time at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington until the age of 90.
Survivors include his sons – Stan and wife Sondra Bluma of Omaha, NE and Stephen and wife Ruth Ann Bluma of Basehor, KS; daughters – Judy and husband Charles Wilsey of Fremont, NE, Kathleen and husband Roger Nettleton of Kirksville, MO and Jane and husband Gale Breitkreutz of Seattle, WA; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Viola; brother – Fred Bluma; sister – Marie Boldebuck; step-brother – Ervin Lange; and step-sister – Loretta Piening.
The funeral will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 5, 2012 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church north of Arlington, NE. The Rev. Rick Kanoy will officiate. Visitation will be 2-8 P.M. Wednesday with family receiving friends 5-8 P.M. at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery at Arlington.
Memorials may be directed to the George and Viola Bluma Educational Fund at St. Paul's Lutheran Church or to the Arlington Public Library.
