The following are notes regarding the Frederick Beise family as given by Marcella Beise: Joachim > Friedrich > John Ferdinand > Edward Erwin > Marcella Ruth

The Frederick Beise family was made up of coachmen and gardeners working for the large estates in Pomerania. There were seven children -- five boys and two girls. It is thought the two daughters and one of the sons sailed for South America and were never heard from again. Recent efforts to trace then through our embassies in Brazil and Argentina have borne no fruit.

Another son, John Ferdinand, his wife, Fredericka, and two small children, Wilhelmine and Wilhelm, along with John's parents, Frederick and Louisa Beise, all started for America together. Upon arrival in Hamburg, Wilhelm contracted measles and was quarantined. Frederick and Louisa Beise continued the journey to America taking their granddaughter with them.

Shortly after setting sail, Wilhelmine came down with measles. She died and was buried at sea.

It was nearly three months before the families were reunited in America and they arrived in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota, in July 1869, just one week before Fredericka gave birth to her son, Ferdinand.

John Ferdinand, who loved to hunt and fish, became a homesteader on land situated along what is now known as Six Mile Creek -- at the head of Lake Minnetonka. After living there about twenty years they acquired the land now known as King's Point on Halsted's Bay of Lake Minnetonka. There is a family burial ground in St. Bonifacius where Frederick and Louisa Beise and many other Beise's are buried.
