WATERLOO - John I. Greene, 84, of Waterloo, died Friday, Dec. 30, at Cedar Falls Health Care Center.

He was born June 28, 1927, in Waterloo, son of Charles "John" and Emo Alder Green. He married Helen Sundt Aug. 5, 1949, in Waterloo. She died Feb. 2, 1995.

Mr. Greene served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was employed at Rath Packing Co., Becker Roofing, and was a self-employed carpenter.

Survived by two sons, John (Kathy) of Evansdale and James of Anamosa; two daughters, Jackey (Ben) Meighan of Beaver Dam, Wis., and Anna Wagner of Waterloo; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Esther Stephens of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a son, Larry John; a son-in-law, Jeff Wagner; a grandson; and two sisters, LaVona Schrage and Virginia in infancy.

Services 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Waterloo, with military honors conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and Waterloo AMVETS Post 19. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, and will continue for an hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home.
