a Josephine (unk.) late in life probably Santa Clara Co., CA.

Clement F. Briery joined Civil War Illinois Company C,
91st Infantry, Rank of Sergeant, later promoted 2nd Lieutenant. Fought in battle in Mobile, Alabama and suffered head injury. Mustered out and returned to Oquawka, IL.
Moved to Mosinee, Marathon Co., Wisconsin with wife and family. Taught school
at Agricultural College in Wausau, WI.
Divorced between 1878-1880 in Wausau, Marathon Co., WI.,
after abandoning wife and children, Elizabeth Briery petitioned for divorce on grounds of abandonment.

Clement F. Briery left family seeking work in 1878 and never returned. Reported drowned in Chicago River, Chicago, IL., in 1888 by niece Mrs. Middleton of Chicago daughter of Elizabeth Foster Briery's sister Caroline "Carrie" Foster, Briggs. Accidental or Suicide? Place of burial unknown. Could be in in Military Cemetery in Chicago area or in Pauper's Grave.
Elizabeth remarried to Edgar E. Ladu 18 Oct. 1883 Marathon Co., Wisconsin. Later divorces Edgar E. Ladu 31 Aug. 1899 Wausau, WI., and moves with son William Joseph Briery to Hammonton, Yuba Co., CA. and Sutter, Sutter Co., CA. Hammonton, CA. was on the American River across from Beal AFB near Sacramento, CA. Her son William Joseph Briery worked in the gold dredging mining area along the river.
