Her family called her Bee Gee, like she signed her name to us. It is short for Betty Jean.
14 Apr 2012, Parting Words Delivered at D.A.R. meeting:
She was known as BG but her birth name was Elizabeth Eugenia Pagter. Most of us first knew BG from the Santa Ana Chapter, then Katuktu Chapter. BG was a member of DAR for 52 years. That is quite a record.
BG was not one to talk about herself, but she could have written a book of all her accomplishments and travels. During her lifetime she was employed by the U.S. Diplomatic Corp at the Hague, Netherlands; London, England; Bonn, Germany; Ankara, Turkey; Helsinki, Finland; Kabul, Afghanistan; Bremen, Germany; Naples, Italy and Santiago, Chile.
The most endearing story of BG is her love for her beloved cat. The condo Complex where she lived was sold and there was no end of trouble. Should she stay or look for new quarters? It seems the cat made her decision. As long as he was alive, she would stay. He was old an precious and the two of them looked forward to play time when she returned home. BG died leaving her cat. And to have a happy ending he was adopted by her veterinarian as the resident cat.
It is hoped that many of you were able to know this accomplished lady. She was a special friend and a loyal DAR. Goodbye, BG. We send our love and prayers.
