SAMUEL LOY - Probably the largest concourse of people in the city to leave their worldly cares and business to assist in the last sad rites of the body of a fellow citizen were in attendance last Friday afternoon at the funeral services of Samuel Loy who was born in Perry County, Pennsylvania, February 9, 1802 and died in Americus, Lyon County, February 6, 1889 lacking three days of being 87 years old.
The deceased embraced the Christian religion in the month of August 1844 and ever since has lived a consistent Christian life up to the time he passed away, at peace with God and his fellowmen.
He lived in his native state until the spring of '47 when he, with his family, moved to the west settling in LaSalle County, Illinois, where he lived until the fall of 1852 when he moved to LaGrange County, Indiana settling near the town of Lima. In the spring of 1856 he moved to Minnesota. Here he lived until the spring of 1860 when he moved to the territory of Kansas and settled near the town of Americus where with his family he has resided since.
Amongst his grown children, nine in number, all living except Nicholas, his oldest son, who died November 30, 1885. The funeral services were held in the Methodist Episcopal Church, the text was taken from the the Psalm, the verse, "Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright; for the end of that man is peace."
