FORMER RESIDENT OF SULLIVAN DIES
Sullivan, Jan. 31 - The remains of James Porter, a former resident of this city were brought back here from Havensville, Kan., Monday night for burial, and were taken to the home of Joseph H. Waggoner.
James Porter was born in Shire, England, September 1, 1831, and came to this country when a young man, settling In this city, where he lived until about ten years ago, when he went to southern California, to live wlth his eldest daughter, Mrs. Dora Gearhart. He lived there until a few months ago when he came to Havensville, to the home of his eldest son Edward Porter, where he remained until his death, which occurred last Saturday. He was married to Nancy J. Patterson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donty Patterson March 4, 1861, and to them were born five children, four of them are still living. Carl Porter and Mrs. Dora Gearhart of California, Edward Porter of Havensworth, Kansas and Mrs. Thomas Leach of Decatur, his wife hailng died Jan. 17, 1887.
Mr. Porter was an engineer and worked at the City Roller mill while he lived in this city, and was well-known to everyone in the city. His eye sight began to fail him and he had to give up his work and left here going to the home of his daughter in California where he lived until a short time before his death. He was a member of the Christian church of this city. and was a regular attendant
at the services of the church as long as he lived in this city and was considered one of the most faithful members.
BURIED AS WISHED
After leaving here Mr. Porter told his children that he wanted to be brought back hera for burial beside his wife, when he died, and his wish has been fulfilled as the funeral services were held in Chribtian church of this city Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by Rev. A. L. Caseley, pastor
of the Methodist church. Mrs. Joseph Waggoner, of this city is a sister-in-law of the deceased and Perry J. Patterson and Charles Patterson of near this city are brother-in-laws.
