Swedish Actress. Often cited as one of the greatest Swedish actresses along with Ingrid Bergman and Greta Garbo. It was though her collaboration with director Ingmar Bergman he made her name, and acted in 7 of his films; for instance Smultronstället (Wild Strawberries, 1957), Tystnaden (The Silence, 1963) and Viskningar och rop (Cries and Whispers, 1972). In the 1960´s she commenced a successful international career, and have played against actors like Burt Lancaster, Ben Gazzara, Dirk Bogarde and Martin Sheen. She also acted against Sophia Loren in The Cassandra Crossing (1977). For many years she lived in Rome, Italy, but returned to Sweden for medical treatment. (bio by: Peter Robsahm)
