Stephen A. Harris, 61, died Tuesday evening at Memorial hospital after a long illness. He was the son of John and Betsy Weilder Harris.
Mr. Harris had been a resident of Converse County since 1923 when he came here to superintend construction of oil storage facilities at the Clayton Tank Farm and Glenrock. The Clayton installation was at one time the largest tank farm in the world. Mr. Harris was superintendent of storage facilities at the tank farm until last month but had been on sick leave for about a year. Arrangements had been made to honor him at a banquet and testimonial dinner yesterday at Casper commorating his completion of 30 years with the Stanolind company.
Mr. Harris was united in marriage with Mary Snyder at Sapulpa, Oklahoma on August 23, 1919. For the past thirty years they had resided at Glenrock and at the Clayton tank farm. They moved to Douglas three months ago where they resided at 738 So. 6th.
Mr. Harris was a member of the Evangelical church of Warren, Pa. and the American Legion. He was a veteran of World War I, having served in the Marine Corps.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; and a son, Robert Lee Harris, who is a student at the University of Texas at Austin.
