He started with a journalist career in Brooklyn and Manhattan, New York City, New York before entering the motion pictures in 1914. He wrote a number of screenplays for comedian John Bunny and also wrote for Fox, Universal and Warner Brother Movie studios using the name "Leslie S. Barrows".
