Death Claims a Good Man

Stant Kean died Thursday morning, July 27, 1939, at 3:15, at his home in Jamestown, Ky. He had been in poor health for several years, following a serious operation in Cleveland, Ohio. His death, though a shock, was not unexpected as his condition had become so bad in the last few months.

Mr. Kean was born in the Wooldridge Schoolhouse neighborhood, three miles west of Jamestown, May 3, 1873. He moved to Jamestown several years ago, where he spent the remainder of his life. He belonged to a prominent family, being the son of the late William R. and Tempie Jane Kean.

Mr. Kean was married to Mattie M. Lawless, also a well known and prominent family, on Jan. 15, 1904, to this union seven children were born, all of whom survive.

He had been a member of the Jamestown Methodist Church for more than 30 years and was very active in church affairs as long as he was able.

The deceased leaves his wife and the following children, all of whom were here for the funeral: Chester, Aldean and William Kean, of Jamestown; and Mrs. Earl Miller and Mrs. Norman Phelps of near Jamestown; Charles and Herman Kean of Louisville. He also leaves three grandchildren, Earline Miller, Marelyn Frances and Charles Lee Kean; one sister, Mrs. Lee Miller, one brother, C.G. Kean, and one half brother, Silas Kean, of Jamestown.

Funeral services were conducted by Revs. Howard O'Banion and H.B. Popplewell at 2:30 P.M. Friday at the Methodist Church, with burial in the Jamestown Cemetery.
