Marcena A. Berry, 86, of Parsons, Kansas died at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at Elmhaven West nursing home, Parsons, Kansas, where she entered earlier the same day. She had been in failing health for several months.
She was born Nov. 29, 1917, at Girard, Kansas, to Francis and Anna (George) Westhoff.
The family farmed in Neosho County north of Parsons. After graduating from the Sunnyside Country School, she moved to Parsons in 1936, where she was employed at Quality Cafe.
She married Homer E. Berry on Sept. 24, 1938, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in South Mound. They lived their entire married life in Parsons. He survives of the home.
She was an avid golfer, playing at Katy Golf Club and Parsons Country Club. She was the country club champion in 1975 and in 1980. She also enjoyed crocheting and gardening.
For many years she was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parsons and was a member of its Altar Society. Later she attended St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
She was a cosmetic consultant for Luzier Cosmetics for 33 years and was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Moore and husband, Roy, of Parsons, KS, and Sandy Caputo and husband, Bill, of Birmingham, AL; five grandchildren, Kevin Moore of Parsons, KS, Nicholas Moore of Belle Isle, FL, Kurtis Moore of Greenwood, AR, Jennifer Morin of Montgomery, TX, and Wesley Caputo of Birmingham, AL; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Bernard Westhoff of Parsons, KS; and two sisters, Marie Kliewer of Parsons, KS, and Francie Ann Molliconi of Lakewood, CO.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Merle Westhoff, Verdan Westhoff and Lloyd Westhoff; four sisters, Edna Foster, Alice Clary, Esther Gleason, and Helen Larsen; and a great-grandson, Matthew Moore.
The service will be Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Scaletty officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Parsons, KS.
Memorials to St. Patrick's Catholic Church Renovation Fund, or to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice may be left at or mailed to the Carson-Wall Funeral Home.
