John was born and raised in Missouri, the son of Samuel Spangler Hare (1833-1918) and Emeline Sponsler Hare (1837-1907).
He had one brother, William Edgar Hare (1860-1935), who would become a doctor, and one sister Myrtle Mary Hare (1857-1943). Myrtle never married and is buried with their parents.
John was a barber most of his adult life.
He was married twice, first to
Josephine Webb Hare (1876-1902)
they would have 2 children.
Grace Lenore Hare (1897-1979)
and
Wilford Kyle Hare (1900-1900)
When Josie died he married
Eura B Holliday Hare (1875-1956)
they would have two daughters
Orpha Marquerite Hare (1905-1974)
Naidine Emmaline Hare Jackson (1907-1973)
