James was a clerk for an insurance company (1910), housepainter (1920, 1939-45), paper hanger, custodian (1949), and school crossing guard [Greater Hartford Dir., 1939-1941, 1943-4, 1949].
James married at Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut 4 June 1907 Prudence Griswold Belden [Conn. State VR, Marriages, filed 6 June 1907].
Prudence joined the Congregational Church at Wethersfield in 1892, J. Elmer joined the same church in 1921 [Present members, Manual of the Congregational Church, Wethersfield, Conn., Oct. 1893 and 1 Sept. 1925].
Prudence G. and J. Elmer resided on Broad St., Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut, from 1911-1916 and at 76 Main Street, Wethersfield, from at least 1929 to 1963 [1910 U.S. Census, Connecticut, Hartford Co., Wethersfield, entry 461/533, microfilm; Greater Hartford Dir., 1911-1964].
