Charlotte Louise Ryan, 74, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola, Kansas.
She was born Nov. 16, 1937, in Wichita, Kansas, to William M. and Juanita (Bordenkircher) Cates.
She grew up in Wichita and eventually made her home in Shawnee.
She worked a number of years for the Department of Labor as a secretary. After her health failed, she made her home in nursing facilities near her family.
She was a member of the Catholic Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Rene' Qualls, of Humboldt, KS, and Robin Burleson, Hemet, CA; a sister, Carolyn Pierce, of Hot Springs Village, AR; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Cates.
According to her wishes, her body was donated to the University of Kansas Department of Anatomy for research.
Memorials to the Multiple Sclerosis Society may be left at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, Kansas, which is in charge of arrangements.
