In 1900, Ethel was living with her parents, Andrew and Jennie Moberg, and 2 siblings in Brainerd, MN. The census says she was born in July 1886.
She married Carl Zapffe at Mt. Vernon, WA, where her family was living at the time. They raised their two children - Carl Andrew and Barbara - in Brainerd.
After Carl died in 1950, Ethel eventually moved to St. Petersburg, where she married Charles E. Wiley in 1957. She died there in 1959.
Carl Zapffe's Mother Dies in Florida
Mrs. Charles E. Wiley, the former Mrs. Carl Zapffe Sr. of Brainerd, died Saturday in St. Petersburg, Fla. Mrs. Wiley, who was apparently in good health, died in her sleep.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at the J. McCaffery Memorial home, 59th street and 8th avenue, St. Petersburg.
Mrs. Wiley's first husband was Carl Zapffe, geologist for the Northern Pacific railroad. He was prominent in Brainerd affairs and served as chairman of the Water and Light board here for many years. Mr. Zapffe died Aug 29, 1950.
Mrs. Wiley lived in Brainerd until 1956 when she moved to Florida. She was married to Dr. Charles E. Wiley, retired, Jan. 16, 1957.
Mrs. Wiley was born as Ethel Marie Moberg July 5, 1886, in Minneapolis. She came to Brainerd with her parents in 1894 and lived here until 1907 when the family moved to Mount Vernon, Wash. She was married to Carl Zapffe of Brainerd in Mount Vernon Dec. 1 1909, and returned to Brainerd.
Mrs. Wiley is survived by her husband; one son, Carl A. Zapffe, of Baltimore, Md., and eight grand-children. A daughter, Barbara, was killed in an air accident May 2, 1950. (Brainerd Dispatch, Monday, 27 April 1959 p. 2, c. 3)

Wiley, beloved mother of Carl Zapffe (Baltimore, Md.), beloved brother [sic] of Alger Moberg (Mount Vernon, Wash.). Also survived by eight grandchildren. Friends received at the Jay A. McCaffery Memorial Home Inc., 59th St. and 8th Ave. N. (Tyrone Blvd.). Funeral services are at the Jay A. McCaffery Chapel Tuesday at 2 p.m., Dr. Aaron N. Meckel officiating.
