Richard E. "Rick" Carmany, 47, of Columbia passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 19, 2011 at his home of natural causes. He was married to Kyra J. Vandergrift Carmany.
Rick worked in the culinary field for many years in the Lancaster and Lebanon areas. He was last employed as the manager of the Kling House Restaurant in Intercourse. Rick was a member of the Donegal Class of 1982 and received his culinary degrees from Penn State and The Restaurant School of Walnut Hill College, specializing in pastries. An avid Trans-Siberian Orchestra fan, Christmas was his favorite time of the year. Rick put up huge light displays at his home and during December raised funds for local charities and our troops overseas.
Born in Fairbanks, Alaska, he was the son of Joseph P., Jr., husband of Beth E. Carmany of Minnetonka, MN and the late Martha A. Herr Carmany.
In addition to his wife and father, Rick will be missed by his stepdaughter, Alyssa L. Stutzman and a sister, Susan M., wife of Marc A. Mack of MN and their sons, Austin and Joseph. A brother, Thomas H. Carmany preceded him in death.
A Memorial Service honoring Rick's life will be held at the Sheetz Funeral Home, 16 E. Main St., Mount Joy on Friday, December 23, 2011 at 11 am. Friends may visit with the family from 10 until 11 am. Interment is private. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, 131 S. Queen St., Lancaster, PA 17603.
