MULLINS - Herbert Everette Vaughan Sr, 75, died today after a long illness.
Mr. Vaughan, native of South Boston, Va., was one of the pioneer citizens of Mullins. He came here about 50 years ago and engaged in the tobacco business. Later he operated a successful insurance agency and was for a number of years proprietor of the Vaughan Hotel. He was an elder in the Presbyterian church, a Mason, and an honorary colonel on the governor's staff.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Sunday from the Cox Funeral Home, by the Rev. E. G. Beckman. Interment will follow in Cedardale Cemetery.
Mr. Vaughan is survived by his widow, the former Loulie Smith; one son, Herbert E. Vaughan Jr.; three sisters, Mrs. H. Lee Boatwright of Danville, Va., Mrs. W. B. Penick of Greensboro, N.C. and Mrs. William Farmer of Wilson, N.C.; 3 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
