U.S. Senator. Moving to Park City, Utah in 1883, he operated several mines, served on the City Council of Park City in 1895, and was a member of the Utah State constitutional convention in 1895. In 1901, he was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate, serving until 1905. Not a candidate for reelection, he resumed the mining business until his death from a stroke at age 56.
