Betty (Bea) was born in the family farm house in Oakland, Oregon, to Wendell and Ethel Edwards Truitt. Betty was the oldest of the sisters, Peggy Jo Lytle and Ruth Ella Gibson. She attended school in Oakland graduating in 1941. As a senior in high school Betty was chosen "Turkey Queen" as Oakland was the turkey capital of the nation at that time. She attended Oregon State Agricultural College (OSU) for one year before moving to Portland, Oregon where she worked during World War II. Upon returning to Douglas County she began working at Martin Box Company in Oakland.
While at a dance at "Turkey Hall" in Oakland she met up with an old acquaintance, Eugene W. Fox of Glide, Oregon whom she married in August of 1949. They built their first home in Glide, where they lived and raised their two children, Greg and Jennifer.
In 1963 they built a beautiful home, on the North Umpqua River in Garden Valley where they lived out their lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gene; her sisters, Peggy and husband Pat Lytle; and Ruthie and husband "Hoot" Gibson; and brother-in-law, Les Smith.
Betty is survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy Fox Smith, son, Greg Fox and wife Keene; daughter, Jennifer Wilson and husband Marvin; grandchildren, Ryan and Diana Fox and their children Brenden and Wyatt; BraeLee and Josh Birtch and their children Sierra, Taylor and Bodie; Sarah Wilson and Jake Wilson, and many special nieces, nephews, friends and allies.
Please come and join us for a "Celebration of Life" to be held on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Washington School Community Center in Oakland, 637 N.E. Locust Street. Please bring a memory to share!
