Sarah Elizabeth Holmes Hull, 92, of Marion died Friday, March 27, 2009 in Smyth County Community Hospital after an extended illness. Born Jan. 8, 1917 in the North Holston area of Smyth County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Wilkinson Holmes and Garian Copenhaver Holmes. She attended Marion College and had been a faithful member of Royal Oak Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Denton Hull in 1976, a sister, Helen Holmes Tate, and two brothers, Dr. Edward Buchanan Holmes and Charles Wendell Holmes.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Garian Hull Ross, and husband, the Rev. Dr. Mark S. Ross, and Anne Harper Hull, all of Marion; one son, David Denton Hull Jr., and wife, Linda Blevins Hull of Marion; five grandchildren, Stephanie Dawn Kiser of Denver, Colo., Amy Elizabeth Kiser of Chicago, Ill., Brett Christopher Kiser of Portland, Ore., Laura Hull Paschal and husband, David, of Hume, and Denton Thomas Hull of Marion; a brother-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Manson B. Tate of Dublin; two nieces, Carolyn Elizabeth Tate of Dublin, and Barbara Holmes Stoudt of Charlottesville; two nephews, Robert Carrington Tate of Lithonia, Ga., and Richard Edward Holmes of Beaver Creek, Ohio.

Memorial services were conducted at Royal Oak Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Alan Gray and the Rev. Dr. Mark Ross officiating. A committal service was held in Rose Lawn Cemetery. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service was in charge arrangements.
