EXCERPT FROM MEMOIRS BY WILLIAM A RILEY January 1931
" We do not know just when our ancestors came to this country, but our Grandfather Riley was born in PA, moved to KY and married Mary McIlvain of Mason Co, KY and lived at Washington KY. He afterward moved to Cabin Creek in Lewis Co, KY, six miles east of Mt. Carmel, and died there Jan 14, 1829. He is buried at Stone Lick Church three and one half miles from Lewisburg.
In 1834, Grandmother Riley and her ten children came from KY to Rushville, Schuyler Co, IL, and spent the first winter there. In the spring of 1835, they moved on Section 36, twp 6, north range 3, east of the fourth principal meridian, near Bryant, Fulton Co, IL, and this was their home until her death in 1852.
Grandfather Riley had 3 brothers who lived in Bracken Co, KY.
Grandmother Riley(McIlvain) had 4 sisters and two brothers. The sisters were: Rosa, who married Garrett Talbot; Margaret, who married Thomas Davis; Nancy, who married Thomas Wells; and another who married
____Rankin. Her Brothers were Hugh and John. John moved to Missouri. One of his daughters was the wife of Colonel Yell of Arkansas, who was killed at the battle of Buena Vista during the war with Mexico.
Grandmother Riley died at the farm home near Bryant, IL, and is buried at Lewistown, IL."
