AUSTINBURG — Ruth M. Dean, age 86, of Austinburg, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born April 8, 1925, in Conneaut, Ohio, to Louis and Madeline (Gildone) Simone. Ruth graduated from Conneaut High School. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ashtabula.
Ruth worked at Simone's Grocery Store, The Astatic Corporation and Sand's Grocery throughout her life. She was mainly a homemaker and loved it.
Ruth was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafts, traveling and playing cards and shuffleboard. For many years, she and Harold "Lefty" traveled to Florida to their second home. Their beloved past time was spinning a pop bottle on a map to see where their next adventure would take them.
She is survived by her son, Harold D. "Skip" (Amy) Dean III of Austinburg, Ohio; grandchildren, Jeff (Kelle) Dean of Fairborn, Ohio, Jason (Kenda) Dean of Frederick, Okla. and Kristen (Matthew) Tapassi of Painesville, Ohio; great-grandsons, Tyler and Tony Dean and Blaise Dean; and her sisters, Amy Coppela of Conneaut, Nancy (Rich) Rolfe of Hubbard, Ohio and Esther (Bill) Albergo of Lynbrook, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold D. "Lefty" Dean Jr.; her daughter, Kathy Ann Dean; her parents; and her siblings, Sam Simone, Norma Sass and Joseph Simone.
Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 17th, at THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 345 Main St., Conneaut, with Pastor David Adams, of First Grace Gospel Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, at the Funeral Home.
A luncheon will be provided by First Grace Gospel Church following the Graveside Services on Saturday.

THEIR SISTER:Amy Coppola, age 83, of Conneaut, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her home on Jan. 14, 2017, with her daughters by her side.
Amy Simone was born on Oct. 28, 1933, the daughter of the late Louis and Madeline (Gildone) Simone. Amy loved the Conneaut area and lived most of her life within ten miles of her childhood home. While growing up, Amy's father owned various grocery stores in the harbor area. Amy liked to share stories of how she and her siblings had to leave Dean Avenue School during recess and lunch to sell penny candy and deliver groceries to customers.
Amy graduated from Conneaut High School in 1951. After graduation, she moved to downtown Cleveland with her sister, Norma, to do office work. Amy did not stay long in Cleveland, she returned to Conneaut to help her father run his grocery store, Simone's Golden Dawn, while her brother, Sam, was in the service.
In 1957, Amy married Carmen (Pudge) Coppola. In their early days, Amy and Pudge loved to dance at all the hot spots from Conneaut to Cleveland. A highlight of their life was when they attended the opening of the Richfield Coliseum on October 26, 1974, where their favorite performer, Frank Sinatra, was the main attraction. Pudge and Amy raised 3 children, Christopher, Kim and Debra.
Amy loved family events. Most recently, a huge thrill was attending the wedding and reception of her grandson, J.R. to Brittany. She was also grateful to spend the evening with her sisters, Nancy, Esther and brother-in-law, Bill. Family and friends were Amy's delight. Every July, Amy looked forward to the Simone Family Reunion. Over the years, she loved visiting with her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews at Conneaut Township Park, watching the sunset and reminiscing about fun times. Amy was thankful to celebrate one last Christmas Eve with her immediate family, eating the traditional calamari in sauce. Throughout her life, Amy's hobbies were bowling, playing Pinochle, trying out new restaurants and going to the casino.
Amy worked at General Electric in Conneaut for 28 years. Amy loved working at G.E. and made many lifelong friends. Over the years, Amy kept in contact with coworkers through monthly lunches, weekly dinners and Pinochle games with her "sisters" that lasted late into the night. Amy also felt blessed to live in a neighborhood in which she was surrounded by dear friends. Amy had neighbors that were always willing to pop in for a visit, shovel snow from her walk, and call to check up on her and send warm regards.
Amy was preceded in death by her husband, Pudge Coppola; her son, Christopher Coppola; her brothers, Samuel Simone and Joseph Simone; and sisters, Ruth Dean and Norma Sass.
Amy is survived by her two daughters, Kim (Jim) Jury and Debra Coppola; her grandson, J.R. (Brittany) Jury; and sisters, Nancy (Richard) Rolfe and Esther (William) Albergo. Amy also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
At Amy's request, no services will be held. A Life Celebration will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, the day that would have been Amy's 84th birthday. Details will be announced at a later date. All family, friends and acquaintances are welcome to join in the celebration.
A huge thank you goes out to Amy's niece, Devona Simone, for the countless hours she spent with Amy at Cleveland Clinic and the David Simpson House in Euclid. Also deserving of great thanks are the many caregivers, whose expertise and compassion were remarkable throughout Amy's illness.
