Obituary published in The Berkshire Evening Eagle, Pittsfield, Berkshire County, Massachusetts, October 7, 1916, pg. 18:

Was Last Member of the Laflin Family:
Mrs. Louise Frances Crane, Mother of Ex-U.S. Senator, Dies in Dalton Home:

Mrs. Louise Frances Crane, aged 86 years, widow of Z. Marshall Crane, died yesterday afternoon at her residence in Craneville, Dalton. Death was due to physical causes incident to old age. Up to within a week Mrs. Crane had been well and active as for some time past.
Mrs. Crane was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Winthrop Laflin of Lee. Her father had been a paper maker in Saugerties, N.Y., who moved to Lee to engage in the paper manufacturing in that town. Mrs. Crane was born on July 1, 1830 in the house which was later the home of Augustus Smith in Lee. Z. Marshall Crane had married her elder sister, by whom he had two children, Zenas Crane of Dalton and Mrs. George T. Plunkett of Hinsdale. The first Mrs. Crane died and Mr. Crane's second marriage was to her sister. The marriage took place in Suffield, Conn., in 1850, and Mrs. Crane went immediately to Dalton to live in the house which for 66 years had been her home. Her parents had died and she had been living with relatives in Suffield at the time of her marriage.
Like all members of the Crane family, Mrs. Crane aided in many charities. She was identified with the Congregational church of Dalton and several of its societies, in which she had been prominent, first as an actual worker and in later years as a staunch supporter.
Mrs. Crane was a regular and interested correspondent to close friends almost to the end of her life. For 10 years or more, her birthday had been observed by the reunion of her family and relatives. She was exceedingly fond of horticulture and the beautifying of her grounds was one of her greatest pleasures. Mrs. Crane was the last member of the Laflin family.
Besides her stepson, Zenas Crane, and Mrs. George T. Plunkett, there are three children surviving, Mrs. Harris Ogden Bates of Morristown, N.J., and Dalton ex-Senator W. Murray Crane and Miss Clara Crane of Dalton.
Funeral services will be held at the Crane home on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and Rev. George W. Andrews, pastor of the Dalton Congregational church, will be the officiating clergyman. Interment will be in the Crane plot in Dalton cemetery.
