Funeral Rites Held For Former Local Resident
Funeral services were held in the Palestine cemetery near Picayune on Sunday, March 8, for Mrs. Ray Duplessie who, prior to her marriage was Ruth Slade, daughter of Mrs. Maude Seals Jarrell of Bogalusa, La., and the late Hamp Slade. Death came in Gulfport following a heart attack.
Mrs. Duplessie was born in Lumberton May 10, 1915, and attended school in Poplarville. She was employed for a time here in the Martin Smith Dry Goods Store, and had many friends and relatives in this area who were grieved at her death.
Mrs. Duplessie was first married to Dick Mitchell, a Baptist preacher, son of Walter Earl Mitchell of Picayune, who passed away five years ago. She is survived by her husband; a son, Walter Earl Mitchell of the Air Force; an adopted daughter, Terry; her mother; two sisters, Grace of New York, and Inez of New Orleans; two step-sisters, Virginia Jarrell of New York and Yvonne Jarrell of Bogalusa; and two step-brothers, J. W. and Willie Ray Jarrell of Bogalusa.
