|Death: ||Jan. 2, 1826|
Widow of Thomas Adams who died in 1776 and was buried at Conewago Chapel just over the Pennsylvania line from Taneytown. Magdalene was interred next to her son Thomas who died the same year as she, 1826. Her age is perhaps exaggerated, given that her husband's stated birthdate on his stone would have made him fourteen years younger than Magdalene. In addition, Magdalene would have been 54 years old at the birth of her last son, Richard, in September of 1776. Nevertheless, her survivors described her on the headstone as one "who died at the age of 104 loaded with years and virtuous deeds."
Magdalena Adams lived for 104 years and may have lived even longer. Tradition has it, ....that she did not die a natural death but was killed by a bolt of lightning". (from 1994 Supplement to Adams of the Alleghenies, page 25).
Her tombstone (made of white marble or sandstone) says that she died "loaded with years and virtuous deeds." (from: Adams of the Alleghenies: A Genealogical History of The Adams Family of Conewago, Loretto and St. Augustine, Pa. by Edmund Adams).
"She had her last child at the age of 54, survived her husband's premature death, raised the children, managed the farms and outlived her husband by a full 50 years. (from :" Adams of the Alleghenies: A Genealogical History of The Adams Family of Conewago, Loretto and St. Augustine, Pa." by Edmund Adams).
