He is a twin to Otto Bruno (Pat) Wessels.
The 4th generation of the Wessels family saw the marriage of Adolph Wessels and Hilma Ullmann on Nov. 3, 1901 at Prairie Valley. They had 6 children. The 5th pregnancy resulted in the birth of fraternal twin sons. They were born at home on Nov. 29, 1912 at Prairie Valley and were named Otto Bruno and Erwin Hermann. They survived a cold, harsh winter with limited heat only in one room by a wood heater and no heat in the bedrooms at night. Grandma (Hilma) often talked about how cold it was that winter, and how she worried about the babies. She said they made a "tent" of quilts over chairs all around the babies to shield the cold drafts from them. Diapers, made from bleached flour sacks were rinsed out in buckets and hung over chairs around the heater to dry in winter and on rainy days. Grandma told me once that when she went into labor having her 5th baby, she was so relieved when that baby was born only to have the contractions begin all over again. Much to everyone's surprise, out came another baby. They grew up on the family farm and were educated at the Prairie Valley School. Otto was affectionately know as "Pat", although it was originally "Pet". Since Elsie and Annie were bigger girls when they were born, they each chose one of the twins to look after. Annie chose Otto and always called him "my Pet". Others thought she meant Pat and so he was always called Pat. Pat married Leota Moss of La Grange. They lived in several locations, but eventually settled in La Grange where Pat was in the refrigeration business. He was the father of 3 children, grandfather of 9, and 8 great-grandchildren. Erwin married twice. He had no children with is first wife, Agnes Logue. He later married Maxine Crouch and had one son and 2 adopted daughters. Otto "Pat" passed away on Aug. 23, 1973. Erwin lived in Tomball, TX until his death on Sep. 13, 1983. There were no gynecologists, hospitals, or sanitary conditions available in order to have babies in the olden days. Survival was by the grace of God.
