HAZEN -- LorEtta (Borth) Wiest, 82, Hazen, died Jan. 16, 2004, at the Hazen medical center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Thursday at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, with the Rev. Walt Wolff officiating. Burial will be in Hazen City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. MST Wednesday at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.
LorEtta (Borth) Wiest was born Dec. 26, 1921, at Gackle, N.D., to Benjamin and Anna Marie (Schultheisz) Borth. She attended school at Gackle. She moved to Medina with her parents in 1937.
LorEtta married Roland Wiest at Medina on Oct. 28, 1945. They lived at various towns in North Dakota including Medina, Tappen, Pingree and Carrington. They came to Hazen in 1963, where they owned and operated Wiest's Coast to Coast until retiring in 1990. Roland died Dec. 4, 1998. LorEtta became a resident of Senior Suites in Hazen on March 15, 2000. In September 2002, she became a resident of the Knife River Care Center, Beulah. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, where she quilted and was active in the ladies organization. She was also a member of the Hazen Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Colleen and David Webb, Armona, Calif.; one son and daughter-in-law, Loren and Peggy Wiest, Hazen; four grandchildren, Nolan and Rosalind Webb, Sioux Falls, S.D., Shane and Jenny Wiest, Tucson, Ariz., Jason and Tasia Wiest, Hazen, and Twyla and Joseph Barbot, Beulah; six great-grandchildren, Karris Webb, Jacob, Elijah and Isaak Barbot, Searra Wiest and Mikayla Wiest; one sister, Leona and Gerhardt Reuer, Medina; two sisters-in-law, Lydia Borth, Hazen, and Darlene Borth, Rugby; and numerous nieces and nephews.
LorEtta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roland; two sisters, Violet Speidel and Edna Sukut; and two brothers, Harold and Norbert Borth.
In lieu of flowers, family prefers memorials to Sakakawea Select Hospice or Peace Lutheran Church.
