J. W.'s first name was probably "Joseph" or "Joe". He was the son of John Bass and Crecy Hutchins both pioneers of Laurens County. His brother J. M. Bass is buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Rentz.

J. W. married his wife, Rebecca Elender Knight (1854-1932), on 28 May 1878

Funeral Services For Mr. J. W. Bass

Funeral services for Mr. J. W. Bass were held Sunday at four o'clock at Snow Hill Baptist Church near Cadwell. Rev. R. E. Townsend and Rev. Cecil Daniel officiated at the services. Pallbearers were [names of pallbearers are hard to read] Judge E. D. White, J. F. Flanders, E. S. Baldwin, of Dublin; W. T. Stuckey of Garretta; Nate Shy and Frank Jones of Cadwell. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. R. E. Bass, three sons [names are hard to read], B. E. Bass of Jesup, J. J. W. Bass and H. H. Bass of Cadwell; two daughters [names are hard to read], Mrs. E. V. Tappley of Macon, and Miss [Mrs.] Mellie Jones of Cadwell. Mr. Bass died at the home of his nephew, Adolph Bass, in Garretta, where he had been making his home for some time. He had been ill with pneumonia for some time and after apparently ???????ing was again stricken. His death is mourned by a host of friends throughout this (word unreadable).

Funeral Services At Snow Hill for J. W. Bass Sunday

Funeral services will be held this afternoon for J. W. Bass at Snow Hill Baptist church following his death at the home of his son [nephew], Adolph Bass, at Garretta Saturday. Mr. Bass was an old prominent citizen of Cadwell and his death is a matter of regret to numerous friends throughout the entire county. A number of prominent Dublin citizens will act as pallbearers. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. R. E. Bass, and several sons other than Mr. Bass of Garretta.
