Talib Muhammad
Birth: unknown
Death: Dec., 2003

Doo-Wop/R&B Singer. Muhammad who was known as Roger Hayes while performing was a member of the musical group, 'The Schoolboys' which was formed at the Cooper Junior High School in Harlem, New York, in either 1954 or 1955. The group also included James McKay, Harold Atley, Leslie Martin, James Edwards, and Renaldo Gamble. The group began to perform locally and and at school talent shows, later appearing on "Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour" and later on the "Dr JIve Show" on WWRL in New York, which led to a recording contract with disc jockey Tommy Smalls. The group released there debut single in the fall of 1955 called, "Please Say You Want Me," but in 1956 the group began to fall apart when a new group, 'Frankie Lymon And The Teenagers' came onto the scene. The group was often compared to the soundness of the Lymon group and after a few more releases the group disbanded in 1957. A few years after Muhammad's stint as an up and coming R&B Musician, he turned to crime and was convicted in a murder that happened during a robbery. He was sentenced to 25 years to life at Sing Sing and the Arthur Kill Correctional Facility where he died in 2003. The group's other recordings include, "Carol," "Angel Of Love," and "Juanita In Mexico." (bio by: K)
