Mr. James Truman Watson, 54, entered into rest at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 1950, at his home near Thomson, Georgia. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at First Methodist Church of Thomson with the Revs. Allen Oliver and J.O. Brand officiating. Interment will be in the Thomson Cemetery. Mr. Watson was a nephew of the late Senator Tom Watson. Born in McDuffie County, January 6, 1896, he was the son of the late William A. Watson and Katherine Drane Watson. Mr. Watson graduated from the Thomson High School and was a veteran of World War I. He became associated with his father in the William A. Watson and Son Feed Company and together they developed and marketed the famous Tom Watson watermelon. He was past commander of the American Legion post at Thomson and had held other positions in that organization. He was a member of the National Guard during World War II and served on the McDuffie County selective service. A supervisor of the Little River Soil Conservation district, Mr. Watson was appointed by Gov. Herman Talmadge as a member of the state soil conservation committee. At the time of his death, Mr. Watson was president of the McDuffie County Farm Bureau, a member of the Thomson Board of Trade and the First Methodist Church of Thomson. Survivors include one son, William C. Watson of Carrollton, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. C.C. Collins and Miss Eleanor Watson of Columbia, S.C.; brother, S.B. Watson of Macon, Ga.; grandson, William Craig Watson of Carrollton, Ga., and an aunt, Mrs. Susie Reynolds of Washington, D.C. Curtis Funeral Home.
