John H. Gardner, 83, of Route 1, Madison, died Oct. 5 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Oct. 7 at the Breeland Chapel in Canton with Rev. Allen Winstead officiating. Interment was held at 3:00 p.m. from Red Banks Cemetery in Red Banks with Dr. Edward P. Myers officiating.

A native of Red Banks, Mr. Gardner had lived in Holmes County before moving to Madison in 1964. He was a professional bird dog trainer and traveled to Canada every summer for 53 years to work with his dogs. He was a member of Red Banks Methodist Church.

Mr. Gardner is survived by his wife, Ruby Short Gardner of Madison; son, Ted Gardner of Canton; daughters, Betsy Gardner Plunk of Memphis, Sara Gardner Sutherland and Sue Gardner Fawcett, both of Hickory Valley, Tenn.; sisters, Ruth Gardner Taylor of Cleveland, Tenn. and Martha Gardner Shoults of Fort Worth, Texas; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers were John Gardner, Tom Gardner, Joe Plunk. Mike Plunk, Tip Haley, and Robert
Middleton.
