Laurel June Duey Ambrose was born June 8, 1919, in Hereford, Colorado, to Frederic Carl Duey and Ruth Emelia Parson (sic) Duey. She passed from this life on July 9, 1999, at the age of 80 years, one month, and one day.

Laurel moved with her parents to Chester, NE, soon after her birth and grew to adulthood in that community. After graduating from Chester High School, she taught county school in the area for two years, spending her summers in college at the University of Nebraska. When she was 21 she moved to Washington, D.C., where she became an editor of the national P.T.A. magazine, obtaining her business degree through night school.

In 1942 she married Holmes Pretlow Ambrose, and to that union were born three children. (After his discharge from the air force after WWII, Mr. Ambrose taught music in the Chester High School for a semester to fill a sudden vacancy.)

Laurel's life was devoted to her family and her church, as her husband's studies and musical and ministerial career took them across the county to Lincoln, NE, Lindsborg, KS; Bloomington, Indiana; Jackson, Mississippi, Canyon, TX; Swampscott, Mass.; Nashville, Tenn.; Pasadena, CA; and Phoenix, AZ. She received honors from numerous churches and from Scarritt College in Nashville for her years of outstanding service.

After her husband's death in 1985, she moved to Ashland, OR, where she continued to serve her church and community. Failing health influenced her move to North Carolina two years ago, to be near her son, Mark.

Her brother, Grant Duey; her husband, and her parents preceded her in death.

She leaves to celebrate her life her daughter, Judith Grom; son Stephen Ambrose and his wife, Garnet, of Modjeska, CA; son, Mark Ambrose and his wife, Gail, Penrose, NC; brothers, Dale Duey and his wife, Jeanette, Chandler, AZ, and Allan Duey and his wife, Marilyn, Longmont, CO; sisters, Carmen and her husband, Dale Moore, Boise, ID, and Marcia and her husband, Gene Weary, Green Valley, AZ; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and dear friends.

Memorials will be gratefully received by the Chester Methodist church (sic), Chester, NE, or a favorite charity.
