He was born Feb. 16, 1909 in Franklin County, Ind., the son of Valentine and Catherine Schuck Metzler. He was a member of the St. Mary's Church and the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Forrestors. He was a farmer.
On Oct. 8, 1930, he married the former Mary Selm, and she survives; with four sons, Charles E. Metzler, Addison, Ill., Nelson C. Metzler, Conroe, Texas, Robert C. Metzler, Houston, Texas, and Richard R. Metzler, Beech Grove, Ind.; one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Marlene) Hirt, Greensburg; one brother, Raymond Metzler, Harrison, Ohio, one sister, Mildred Witt, Harrison, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Steve Donahue officiating.
Visitation will be at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home, Greensburg from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
There will be a rosary at 7 p.m. today.
Burial will be in the st. Michael's Cemetery, Brookville, Ind.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Building Fund or the Arthritis Foundation.
