Jacob Ray Hostetler
MIFFLINTOWN - Jacob "Jake" Ray Hostetler, 87, of Brookline Manor Convalescent Home and formerly of Walnut, died Friday at Brookline Manor.
Born June, 19, 1897, in Beale Township, he was the son of the late John William and Jennie M. S. Hostetler. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary J. R. Hostetler, on April 8, 1968 and by his son, Paul Hostetler, on April 26, 1923.
He is survived by his one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Arlene) Freas of Lewistown and by two grandchildren.
Mr. Hostetler was the owner and operator of Hostetler's John Deere Farm Equipment in Walnut. He was also a farmer. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Nook, where he served as superintendent of the Sunday school and on church council. He joined Walnut Grange No. 776 in 1918 and became an honorary member of the Grange in 1980.
He was a past officer of Pomona Grange and received his 60-year pin at a Walnut Grange Pomona meeting in October 1978. He was a member of InterČnational Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #131 in Mifflintown.
He had served as district deputy grand master of Juniata County, president of the Past Grand Association, and as director at the Middletown Odd Fellows Home. He was a lifetime member of the Beale Township Fire Co.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Robert W. Suder and the Rev. Frank I Swartz officiating. Burial will I be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Guss Funeral Home, Mifflintown, from 7-9 p.m. today and at St. Paul's from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday [Oct. 9, 1984]. Memorial services will be conducted by the I.O.O.F. Monday at 8:45 at the funeral home.
