| Birth: | Oct. 2, 1923 | | Death: | Mar. 22, 1945 | World War II Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Lieutenant in the Corps of Royal Engineers, British Army. At Burma, March 21, 1945, Lieutenant Raymond was second in charge of a small patrol whose objective was to obtain information and create a diversion in the area of Taungup. As they were nearing the village of Talaku and moving across an open stretch of ground, they were heavily fired on from a jungle covered hill by a strongly entrenched enemy detachment. Lieutenant Raymond immediately charged the Japanese position, was wounded, but continued up the slope firing his rifle when a Japanese threw a grenade which severely wounded him. He ignored his wounds, continued on leading his section under intense fire and was hit yet a third time. In spite of this third wound he carried on into the enemy position killing two Japanese and wounding a third. The remaining Japanese then fled into the jungle leaving the position together with much equipment. Lieutenant Raymond refused all treatment until his wounded men were cared for first and during the withdrawal of the patrol he collapsed and died the next day. For outstanding gallantry, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross Medal on February 12, 1946. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
