| Birth: | Jan. 22, 1827 | | Death: | Oct. 20, 1886 |  Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Lieutenant in the 78th Regiment, Seaforth Highlanders. On September 25, 1857, in actions at Lucknow, India, Lieutenant MacPherson led a detachment of men in a bayonet charge which resulted in capturing two enemy brass 9-pounder canons. For gallantry in action, he was promoted Captain and awarded the Victoria Cross Medal in June, 1858. He later achieved the rank of Major General and died of a fever while leading an expedition to pacify the insurgents in Upper Burma, an area which had recently been annexed.
