Arthur, a life long resident of Plainsburg, died unexpectedlyat home. Arthur was born in Plainsburg, California. His parents were Ruben and Dorothy Bright.
He attended Savana and Plainsburg elementary schools, graduated from Le Grand High School and attended the University of California, Davis for a year and half then came home to help his father farm.
He met and married Lillian Moore in 1945, after she had come to Le Grand to teach home economics at Le Grand High School. Together they built Bright's Nursery, a diversified farming operation in Plainsburg and raised four children.
Arthur was an extremely hard worker and loved farming. He was an innovator in the nursery industry developing one of the first hybrid rootstocks and a tree digger mounted on a Cletrac to name a few. He was extremely proud of his antique tractor collection and would show it off proudly to anyone who was interested.
Arthur was a past Le Grand High School Board of Trustee, a Minturn Co-Op Gin Director, and a Director of the Texas Long Horn Association.
Arthur and Lillian traveled over the years to Europe, Australia, Panama Canal, Canada and to all of the 50 states meeting and making new friends and visiting old ones.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lillian; his parents; and two half-brothers, Roy and Lloyd Bright of Kingsport, Tn.
Arthur is survived by his sons, James and his wife Cheryl, Eddie and his wife Marge and Bill and his wife Wendy; and his daughter, Virginia and her husband Don, all living within ten miles. He'll be loved and remembered by five grandchildren; five step-grandhildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Public Visitation to be held at Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home, in Merced, Ca. on Friday, December 9, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
A graveside service will be held at Plainsburg Cemetery located at 8953 E. Gillette Road in Le Grand, California on Saturday, December 10, 2011, at 11:00 a.m.
