January 12, 1924: Joseph W. Cassell, eldest of 7 children of Jacob Cassell and Jane Nolan died Saturday at his home in Ansley after a brief illness at the age of 80 years, six months and 8 days.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the family home by Rev. W. E. Darrow. He left his wife, 1 daughter, Mrs. Woolforth of Mona, Wyoming, two sons, J.F. Cassell of Wyoming and George of Ansley.
Burial followed in the Ansley Cemetery. He was born July 4, 1843, in Wayne County, Ohio. His father was a native of Holland and died in Wisconsin and his mother died in Iowa. When he was 9 he came with his parents to Iowa and there grew up on a farm. He married in Clayton County, Iowa, to Miss Mary White, she a native of Bangor, Maine. (note: no evidence has been found that father Jacob was born in Holland. Not sure where this information came from but evidence suggests he was born in Eastern Pennsylvania.)
