Colaborated with Stan Kenton in 1945 where he met and married singer June Christy from 1947 until her death in 1990. Bob performed with Howard Rumsey's Lighthouse All-Stars, recording many works as a sideman and as a leader. He also recorded with Bud Shank, Shelly Manne and others. While driving from a recording session and suffering what would be a fatal heart attack, Bob Cooper pulled his automobile over when he realized he was not going to make it, and so nobody else would be hurt on the Hollywood Freeway.
