Wilma Jean Shafer, 79, of Road 50 North, died at 8:32 p.m. Friday, November 25, 2011 at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mrs. Shafer was a long time beautician and the owner of Wilma Jean's.
She was a member of First Christian Church and Beta Iota Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. An avid golfer, Mrs. Shafer enjoyed participating in the Greenbelt Friday Ladies League and the Wednesday Timbergate Ladies League.
Mrs. Shafer was a loving wife, mom and nana; she will be missed by all.
The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Chuck Lambert officiating.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday.
Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Born in Scipio February 2, 1932, Mrs. Shafer was the daughter of Charles and Hulda Campbell Greathouse. She married George I. Shafer November 16, 1948.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years; her daughters, Mickey (Gene) Fields and Jo Anna (Rob) Kittle, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Joseph Fields of Columbus, Kathleen Fields Richardson of Eureka, Calif., and Chloe Fields, Haley (Jeff) Kittle Williams, Mallory (Patrick) Maguire and Caroline Kittle, all of Columbus; 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Shafer was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Larry I. Shafer on April 6, 2002 and a brother, Russell Greathouse.
