Revolutionary War Continental Army Major General, US Congressman, US Sentor. He was elected to represent Pennsylvania in the United States House of Representatives for three non-consecutive terms (1789 to 1791, 1793 to 1795, and from 1799 to 1801). He was appointed to serve as a Senator from Pennsylvania in the United States Senate, serving from March 4 to June 30, 1801.
