Roy Douglas Riddle passed away in Bethany House, Friday, December 2, 2011. Mr. Riddle was born in Lee County, Al October 20, 1921 to Ethel (Belvin) and Sidney Riddle. He lived in Lee County his entire life where he attended and graduated from Beauregard High School. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Fredericks Funeral Home, with Reverend Durwood Knowles officiating. Interment will follow the service in Garden Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service at Fredericks Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour. Mr. Riddle attended Morris Chapel Methodist Church for many of his adult years. He served in the United States Army during WWII and was stationed in the South Pacific. He returned from the military and immediately went to work with what he called, "the creamery", better known as Meadow Gold Dairies, he remained employed there for 20 years. Mr. Riddle left the creamery and became the 15th person hired for the US Rubber Tire Company on Highway 169 in Opelika. US Rubber later became "Uniroyal-Goodrich" where he spent the next 25 years. At one time, he held the office of Vice-president for the local union representing the employees of the tire plant. He also served on the board of directors for the credit union which was created exclusively for the employees of the tire plant. Mr. Riddle was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, Ethel and Sidney Riddle, and a brother, James Riddle. Mr. Riddle leaves behind a spouse of 42 years, Alice (Fields) Riddle, Opelika, three sons, Roy Jerrell, (Marsha ), Opelika, Donnie Lewis,(Susan ),Opelika, Dana William Riddle, Opelika. A brother, Robert Riddle, (Charlene), Ope-lika, two sisters, Faye Ellen Sheppard, Opelika, Dorothy Reynolds, Tuskegee. 7 Grandchildren, Cristy Riddle Milner (Brent), Opelika, Kimberly Riddle Pickering (Matt), Opelika, Clint Riddle(Brandy), Opelika, Eric Sean Riddle, (Kristen), Auburn, Ashlei Paige Riddle Halbrook, (Bryan), Auburn, Misti Amber Killgallon, (Martin, Bryan, Ohio and Matthew Riddle, Opelika as well as numerous great-children, nieces, nephews and cousins. Up until the last few years of his life Mr. Riddle was an avid reader. He loved to hunt, fish and garden as well.
