Mae Avery Rigby, our amazing wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2011 in her home surrounded by loved ones.
Mae was born August 22, 1925 to Neal C. and Glennie Avery in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she grew up with five sisters and four brothers. She graduated from Granite High School in 1943. Shortly after she married, her high school sweetheart, W. Truman Rigby, on March 24, 1944. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1955.
Mae and Truman had a short stay in Chicago while Truman attended podiatry school. They returned to Salt Lake City and raised their six children residing there ever since. Mae served many years in the Sugar House Rotary Anns Club and the PTA.
Mom was the most compassionate person we know and spent her whole life serving others. She truly exemplified the motto, "Charity Never Faileth."
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and faithfully magnified every calling she had. She loved the Savior and constantly shared the gospel with others. She was extremely appreciative of her blessings and never failed to express her gratitude.
Hand-in-Hand with her testimony of the Savior, family was everything to her. Her children and their happiness were always her primary concern. Her grandchildren absolutely adored her. She was an extraordinary grandmother who made every one of them feel loved. Their fun-filled "grandkids only" trips to Bear Lake will be forever cherished memories.
We will also never forget the time, energy, and love she put into making every Holiday of the Year magical! No one could entertain like Mom! From the decorating to musical entertainment, to the delicious home-made food from her kitchen, she was the "Hostess with the Mostest." She was an excellent cook and loved to express her love by baking and cooking for others.
She was a devoted sister and a fun-loving Aunt to many. She had a close relationship with her sisters and loved spending time with them, giggling.
Other favorite things were shopping with her daughters, skiing, shopping with her friends, golfing, shopping with her granddaughters, playing tennis, shopping by herself, bowling, and just plain shopping. And as she was shopping she never missed the opportunity to buy pounds and pounds of See's chocolates.
Survived by her loving and devoted husband of sixty-eight years; three sons, Robbe (Jean) Rigby, David (Karen) Rigby, and Jamie (Jill) Rigby; two daughters, Kim (Larry) Barnett and Heidi (Ron) Beck; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; three brothers; and two sisters. Preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Janyne and Jay Maddox; three sisters; and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 in the Cottonwood First Ward Chapel, 5913 South Highland Drive (1970 East). Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:30-10:40 a.m. prior to the services.
Interment: Lake Hills Memorial Park, 10055 South State Street (100 East).
